About Jim Coon

Jim found his passion for foreign languages at the age of 12 when his father--who had recently divorced--started bringing all kinds of tasty German food home.  As it turned out, the way to a man's heart is even faster with German food, and soon after Jim had a new German mom! (Can you say Apfelstrudel? Hallo Mutti! ) Jim went on to study German in high school and college, where he added a second language major, Russian Studies. He graduated from Grand Valley State University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with High Honors.

Jim's working career started at the Meijer corporate headquarters where he held several positions over 15 years including Supervisor of Administrative Support in the Hardlines area and Assistant Video Buyer.

After Meijer, Jim became a territory sales manager for a video distribution company in the Detroit area with sales of over 35MM a year, and was promoted to Branch Manager after just two years in the field.

After moving back to West Michigan in 1999 to be closer to family, Jim became the Sales Manager for a local language translation company, where the idea for Global Reach Languages was born. During a 10 year detour with a Swiss precision tooling manufacturer that led to a position as National Sales Manager, he founded Global Reach in his spare time in 2001.

These days Jim is in charge of language translation at a Holland, Michigan technology company that is in the process of "going global."

In his free time Jim is still active behind the scenes at Global Reach, and also has a passion for databases; he continues to develop "TMdb," Global Reach Languages' proprietary translation project management database.
